It would take years to explore everything within a 5-mile radius of Boca Grande, but below is a "shortlist" of things to do in the area.
Using our 24' Sea Fox, check out a few of our favorite places
This entire island is a state park. Awesome snorkeling at the northern tip and deserted beaches throughout. And a "train" for the kids to ride across the island too!
Rumored to be the location where Jimmy Buffet wrote "Cheeseburger in Paradise," this funky island/restaurant/bar/hangout is worth the trip. Good hiking on the island also.
Camping on a "desert island" is a bucket list item for sure. Make sure to bring a flashlight to look for shrimp after the sun goes down. Day trips are fun too!
Our location is a the confluence of the main Gulf of Mexico, the Inter-coastal Waterway, and the Lemon Bay and Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Preserves
Head North to Little Gasparilla island, then explore Bird Key and LIttle Bird Key on your way up to the kitchy and eccentric Eldred's Marina for ice cream.
Explore the old railway trestles that brought phosphate to the island as well as pristine mangrove forests and beautiful sand flats.
Shallow sand flats that are fun for kids and can turn into a pretty big party spot during certain times of the year.
You can visit the village by bike or by car, but the preferred mode of transportation on Gasparilla Island is the golf cart.
Best ice cream on the island!
Shops, Bars, Restaurants, Churches, and some amazing history too.
Classic "gulf" beach if you get tired of having the closer beaches all to yourself...
The best part about the Beachfront Boca house is that you only ever need to leave to stock up on food. Mom can read a book on the daybed while dad and the kids explore the tidal flats across the bridge. Here are a few mini-adventures just steps from the house.
Many of the most ardent shell aficionados consider Captiva Island and the Northernmost tip of Gasparilla as the best shelling locations in the state. Unlike Captiva, the Northern tip of Gasparilla has no public access for 4 miles, meaning that you'll have the place to yourself. Loads of fossilized shark teeth too.
Walk over the bridge at low tide with the kids and explore the tidal flats. Hermit and horseshoe crabs, sea hares, clams, oysters, minnows, whelks, and conch can all be found.
Excellent spearfishing and stone crabbing (during slack tide only).
